Should Chicago roll the dice on a city casino?
05/25/2011
Chicago’s pretty near broke. No one’s contesting that anymore. After several years of tricks and trades, the city has exhausted just about all the options it has for one-time, short-term revenue fixes — selling the parking meters, selling the Skyway, etc.

05/25/2011
With two new proposals popping up in the past week, we’d like to make clear our view that it is completely illogical to be building new office buildings in this economy.

Letter to the editor

Over the past few weeks, the City of Chicago saw nearly 20 different shootings in several neighborhoods from the North Side to the South Side. Interestingly, only one of these shootings occurred in Pilsen, often considered a high crime neighborhood riddled with gang activity. Statistics show that over the past 15 years, violent crime in Pilsen has seen a 25 percent reduction. This reduction in crime is a huge leap and a great improvement for our community.

05/04/2011
We think reducing pollution on the two coal-fired power plants in the city is a good idea — that’s a given. Though the city certainly needs electricity, it’s in the best interest of Midwest Generation, as well as the city’s health, to reduce the amount of pollution coming from the power plants.

05/04/2011
We get what the Chicago Park District is trying to do by putting the new Grant Park farmers market on a Friday. Tapping into the workforce in town for the weekend is a fine idea, and folks may enjoy heading over to pick up a loaf of bread or some fruit.

A rainy and cold day couldn’t keep our 300 volunteers from participating at our annual event — many thanks to all participants for their efforts and commitment to keeping our ward clean and beautiful.
