Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A young black community organizer from the University of Chicago is ready to make his big break into politics.

No, not Barack Obama. It’s 25-year-old Christian Mitchell, the newest candidate for state rep in Illinois’ 26th District.

Mitchell is the latest person picked by the powers that be to take that seat, after being groomed for the spot by its former holder Will Burns, the new 4th Ward alderman.

For a young guy, Mitchell has a shocking amount of political experience. He’s written two bills that successfully passed the state legislature, and been a key cog in campaigns for both Lisa Madigan and Burns. Most recently, he was on Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle’s senior staff.

He’s seemingly been anointed by Preckwinkle and Burns, endorsed and given $50,000 in campaign cash. That’s just the Chicago way. It seems this time, though, like it’s going to the right guy.

We don’t know yet who, if anyone, will run against him. But he’s a promising young politician and we’re excited to see what he can do.

Oh great, another tax, spend and waste candidate. There are plenty of teribble bills that have passed Illinois senate including what Mitchell has been part of. Let's not champion his 'experience;' just yet. Some background on just how wasteful, fraudulent, and poorly written those bills are may be required. This is one of his claims to fame - Weatherization bill: http://dailycaller.com/2011/09/21/energy-dept-weatherization-programs-rife-with-waste-fraud-inspector-general-audits-show/
