As a long time South Loop resident and the healthcare consultant quoted in last week’s article on Mercy Hospital’s plans to merge with Trinity Health [ed. note: now two weeks ago, entitled “Mercy might merge” published Sept. 28], I would like to add the following, which did not appear in the article: Should I call 911 with symptoms of a stroke or heart attack, the Fire Department EMS will take me to Mercy Hospital. I will be in good hands. Mercy Hospital has a certified stroke center and a center of excellence for heart attack care whose quality is ranked above the national average. Why this was left out of the article, I’m not quite sure, as the Mercy/Trinity merger will bring more resources to these centers of excellence.
