We got a lot of insight from one of the key property owners controlling Motor Row this week, for a piece on where development is going in the area.
The plan seems astounding, and if it’s pulled off, it’ll be a game changer not just for the South Loop or McCormick Place, but for the city as a whole. The potential for new revenue to the city and the addition of another marquee entertainment district would be an incredible boon for everyone.
One of the most interesting and important pieces of the puzzle, though, is just northeast of Motor Row: the Prairie Blocks development. A huge new hotel with nightlife options, it would keep so many more dollars in the South Loop that might currently go to River North.
We just don’t know how a bankruptcy case regarding the property will play out. But we hope that federal Judge Jack Schmetterer will give Prairie Blocks’ owners’ latest plan a good, hard look. We’re afraid if they fail this time, it’ll be back to the drawing board with a new owner, and all the buzz about the area will fade.
