Jaymon Jones, 8, (left) talks with Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) Friday about the number of floors in Chicago’s Willis Tower as they tour the city icon as part of a back to school breakfast event for Second Ward students living in public housing. The day trip was Jones’ first to Willis Tower.

Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) on Tuesday told NBC’s “Ward Room” blog that he needed 10 days to decide whether or not to announce a bid for Chicago mayor shortly after Mayor Richard M. Daley dropped a surprise announcement that he would not seek a seventh term in office.

Fioretti legislative aide Pasquale Neri confirmed Wednesday that Fioretti would take a couple of weeks and think about it.

Though Daley’s plans remained unknown, local media have for weeks talked about Fioretti as possibly running for the seat in the February election. Recently, Fioretti has made headlines calling for more cops on the street and opposing a recent closed-door meeting between top police officials and several gang leaders.

Daley’s announcement came during a midday press conference purportedly called to announce a major cabinet change and was said to have taken the city’s political mavens off-guard by its timing.

Perez might have some competition. I noticed this Dane Tidwell has a campaign web site and cabbie Melissa Callahan claimed to be running in the RedEye today.

no chance in hell will anyone sign those. He probably will pay bums to vote again like he did in the Lsc election at south loop. Remember friends? A CPS hearing officer found him guilty, and the geniuses at Chicago magazine gave him an award? LOL! I think Enrique probably wrote the above comment anyways.

The word is that Enrique Perez is circulating petitions for 2nd Ward Alderman. Is this true?
