A woman was assaulted with a handgun and had her cell phone stolen while she was walking on the 1000 block of S. Wells Street on March 11. The woman told police that as she was walking her dog, two offenders approached and demanded her dog.

Would-be car buyers robbed

A man was robbed at gunpoint of thousands of dollars at the 1255 S. Michigan Ave. parking garage on March 2, police said. Two men told police that the suspected offender, Robert Evrard, told them to pick him up at the W Hotel at North Lake Shore Drive, as they were going to purchase a Mercedes-Benz at the Michigan Avenue parking garage.

Protest results in pre-planned arrests

A downtown protest Feb. 25 regarding federal budget cuts to housing programs led to the arrest of 11 protestors. The Illinois state police provided a demonstration permit at the Thompson Center to Chicago Housing Initiative, a coalition of community organizations that organize around national polices which impact affordable housing stock.

At three in the morning on Feb. 16, a resident of the 1200 block of S. Federal St. said she was asleep in her bedroom when a loud noise woke her up. She sat and looked around, but not seeing anything unusual went back to sleep.

McCormick Place ATM robbed of $26,000

An ATM machine at Hyatt Regency McCormick place, 2233 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, is missing $26,000. An employee of the armored car service Pendum Inc. noticed the missing money during a cash load Jan. 20 and told the Minnesota-based firm Transaction Systems that operates the ATM.

Cops charge man for Printers Row murder

Chicago police have arrested a man they say murdered a woman in the Printers Row neighborhood 27 years ago. Frieda Fenster, 77, was strangled to death on December 1983 at her bookstore in the 500 block of South State Street, but no one was charged in the murder.

BB gun on CTA? Under arrest

Police arrested a 19-year-old at the Roosevelt El station the night of Jan. 25 for carrying a gun on a CTA train. The suspect, Mancey Moore, allegedly admitted that he was a member of the Vice Lords and said he carried the gun because members of a rival gang, the Gangster Disciples, shot at him earlier in the evening.

A cab driver was dropping off a fare near the 100 block of E. Wacker October 17 at 3:25 a.m., when the fare started banging on the plastic divider in the cab. The driver stopped the cab.
