Victims were approached from behind by two teenagers

Police are asking Near West Side residents to take precaution, following a string of strong-arm robberies this month. Officers are tying three incidents together. In each case, two male teenagers – described as between 15- to 19-years-old, black, 5’4” and 5’8” and no more than 150 pounds – approached victims from behind.

A man was walking near the 2300 block of S. State Jan. 3 at 7:37 p.m. when three men approached him. One of the men put him in a chokehold while another took the man’s wallet from his pants.

Blowers stolen

A landscaper was removing snow in the 300 block of E. 18th St. Dec. 22 at 10:15 a.m. when two men wearing black scarves and hats and green jackets approached him and took two of his Toro snow blowers from his truck and fled, according to a police report. The snow blowers were valued at $500.

Drug buy goes wrong

A man went to the 800 block of S. Clark Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. to buy 1 oz. of marijuana for $350. Two men approached him and he gave them the money. The men then tried to get inside a vehicle and flee, but the buyer grabbed one of the dealers, who then turned and hit the buyer in the face with a black gun.

Cable installer fingered for theft

A woman said a cable installer came to her home on 1300 block of W. Washington Dec. 5 at 9:55 a.m. to install cable in her bedroom. She left the installer alone. When she came back to check on him she found her $2,000 wedding band missing from its jewelry case. She called police.

A man was sitting at a table in a building located in the 600 block of S. Wabash Nov. 30 at 8:35 p.m. when another man approached, pulled out a 9” butcher knife and stuck it in the table next to the man and said, “I’m tired of you,” and then fled.

Driver fights robber

A man called in a pizza delivery order for a building in the 1000 block of W. 14th Nov. 22 at 9:10 p.m. When the delivery driver arrived, he called the customer back on his cell phone to tell him he’d arrived with the pizza. The customer came out of his house and asked "How much is it?"
