An unknown offender threatened a cab driver with his life in a stick-up at the Jewel grocery story parking lot on Dec. 21 at 9:50 p.m.
The cab driver told police that the offender approached him at 800 S. Wabash Ave. and asked for a ride. Once in the cab, the offender requested that the driver take him to buy liquor. Upon arriving at the Jewel parking lot, the offender said, “Give me your money or I’ll shoot you,” and also told the driver, “I swear I’ll kill you.”
The driver then heard what appeared to be the cycling of a handgun. So the driver proceeded to take $60 out of his pocket and give it to the offender. The offender then fled eastbound Roosevelt from the location.
Police were unable to locate the offender, but the cab driver did say that a surveillance camera in the cab captured the incident.
Late morning assault and robbery
An unknown offender attacked a man and snatched his brief case — with $750 worth of items — on the sidewalk near the intersection of Cullerton and State streets on Dec. 22 at about 11:00 a.m.
The victim told police that he was walking eastbound on Cullerton from Archer Avenue when the suspect walked up to him and said, “you remember me.” The victim said that he didn’t. The offender then grabbed the victim by the coat, put him against the steel fence, and told the victim to give him his brief case. The victim refused and the offender proceeded to punch the victim in the face, stating, “Give it to me: I have a knife,” while reaching into his pocket.
The victim handed over the brief case while the offender fled eastbound on Cullerton. The brief case contained an iPad and cell phone, which each belong to the victim’s employer.
A witness walking behind the victim and offender corroborated the victim’s story. Numerous police units along with the reporting officers toured the area but couldn’t find the assailant.
CTA passenger able to detain violent offender
Police arrested Tajuana Bullocks, 43, of Chicago, for aggravated battery after a violent altercation on an eastbound CTA train Dec. 23 at 4:35 in the afternoon. Police arrived at the Clark and Lake CTA station to detain and arrest Bullocks.
Bullocks and the victim were having a verbal altercation that escalated when Bullocks allegedly hit the victim with her fist and then swung her other arm — which had nail clippers attached to a key chain. The nail clippers and key chain caused bleeding and laceration to the victim’s upper right arm. Bullock then pulled the emergency stop lever and tried to jump out of the train, but CTA employees and passengers successfully pulled Bullocks back onto the train car.
The train then pulled into the Clark and Lake station, at which point the victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital.
Passenger chased, assaulted with handgun on CTA train
A victim told police that four men approached her on a South Loop CTA train Dec. 21 at about 9:45 p.m. and that two of the men assaulted her with a handgun.
The victim was on a CTA Green Line train when the four suspects got on at the Roosevelt stop, 22 E. Roosevelt Rd. One of the men approached the victim, who was on her cell phone, and put a handgun to the victim’s forehead while telling her to be quiet. The victim pushed the gun away from her forehead and fled to another car.
The offenders then started robbing other people on the train. Next, the man who had first pointed a gun at her and also another a second man approached the victim and, again, pointed handguns at her.
The offender then hit the victim on the head and right arm with his handgun. The victim then exited, while being trailed by the offenders. The offenders, though, soon fled in an unknown direction.
The victim complained of bruising but declined medical attention.
This summary contains information taken from the crime reports and arrest records of the 1st District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated
