Officer doing body search gets attacked
12/14/2011 10:00 PM
Connie Conroy, 39 of Hammond, Ind., was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly attacking a police officer who searched her at the 1st District police station, 1718 S. State St., Dec. 7 at 3:50 a.m.
The female officer reported that she took off Conroy’s handcuffs to remove Conroy’s jewelry, but that Conroy wouldn’t take the jewelry off. Conroy then reportedly attacked the officer, grabbing her hair and attempting to bite her. Conroy tried to get the officer to lose her balance by pulling the officer’s hair and then striking the officer.
“You ain’t going to win this,” Conroy reportedly told the officer.
Sensing that she was, in fact, losing the fight, the officer reportedly took out her ASP pistol and struck Conroy on the leg several times until Conroy was forced to sit back down on the bench. The officer was then able to handcuff Conroy.
Parking attendant held-up
An unknown offender threatened an employee at CPS parking, 172 W. Madison St., with a gun Dec. 5 at 3 a.m., and ran off with the employee’s keys.
The employee said that he went to an unsecured maintenance closet to obtain some items and opened the door to discover the offender inside, displaying a silver-colored semi-automatic handgun.
The offender threatened to shoot the victim if he didn’t do as he was told. The offender then walked the victim to the office where they obtained the keys to the automated pay boxes in the lobby area. The victim was then asked to open the boxes, but didn’t have the right keys to do so. The offender took the keys and fled.
Pricey identity thefts
A South Loop resident told police Dec. 9 that an unknown offender withdrew $5,000 from her Chase bank account without her permission. The offender used the account holder’s name to make two withdrawals totaling $5,000 Nov. 21 at the Mishawaka, Ind., Chase bank branch.
In a separate incident, a Chicago woman told police Dec. 7 that an unknown offender made a $25 deposit into her Harris Bank account — and then made a withdrawal from the woman’s checking account for $3,000 and a second withdrawal for another $3,500.
Harris Bank notified the victim of these transactions and the victim has copies of all the transactions made Dec. 3.
Brawl outside church
Police charged Chicago resident Mark Donavon, whose age was listed as between 40 and 45 years old, with aggravated battery for fighting with a man outside Christ the King Lutheran Church, 637 S. Dearborn St., on Dec. 6 at around midnight.
According to the victim, Donavon was illegally on church property and was told to leave. Donovan then grew upset, reportedly threw tea at the victim and then charged at the victim. The victim and offender then wrestled on the sidewalk before Donovan allegedly pushed the victim into a tree, went to his van and grabbed some vehicle brake fluid.
Donavon reportedly threw the brake fluid at the victim and threatened to set the victim on fire. Donavon fled the scene in a tan Chevy car but was apprehended by police.
Officers threatened
Police charged Willy Buchannan, 47 of Chicago, with aggravated assault for allegedly threatening two different police officers on Dec. 8, while appearing in traffic court at 50 W. Washington St.
Buchanan encountered the officers leaving the courtroom at 9:30 a.m. and started behaving aggressively, reportedly yelling a threat-filled expletive at one officer. Police placed Buchannan in custody.
Then, while at the Cook County Sheriff’s lock-up facility, Buchannan reportedly refused to stay seated. Buchannan allegedly told an officer who ordered him to sit down, “I’m going to kick you in the head; watch this.”
Officers detained Buchannan and took him to the 1st District police station.
This summary contains information taken from the crime reports and arrest records of the 1st District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
