A cab driver was dropping off a fare near the 100 block of E. Wacker October 17 at 3:25 a.m., when the fare started banging on the plastic divider in the cab. The driver stopped the cab. The fare got out, opened the driver’s door and started choking the driver. The driver called police for assistance. When officers arrived, the victim refused medical treatment. Police arrested the offender, who they suspected was under the influence of alcohol and charged him with battery.
Woman knifes clubgoer
A man left a club on the 600 block of W. Washington October 15 at 4:30 a.m. and was approached by an irate woman brandishing a small kitchen knife. The woman swung the knife at the man. The man raised his left elbow to block the blow, and the knife punctured his elbow. The man fled in to his car and drove himself to a nearby hospital for treatment where he received stitches for his injury. The victim said he did not know the offender.
Man robbed on CTA train
A man was riding a CTA train near the 1200 block of S. State Oct 12 at 8:30 p.m. and standing near the train’s exit door when he was approached by two men. One of the men said, “Give me your phone,” and pulled up his t-shirt to reveal a gun. The same offender then asked the victim if he had any money. The offender went through the victim’s pockets and removed his cell phone, keys, and a bank card. The offenders exited the train at the State and Roosevelt platform.
Hotel burglary
Two men returned to their hotel room on the 500 block of S. Michigan October 22 at 11:15 p.m. and discovered their laptops and a Canon camera missing.
Almost robbed
A woman tripped over a curb on the 100 block of N. State October 23 at 5:08 p.m. and fell to the ground. As a person helped her up, a man wearing all black clothes reached in to her purse and attempted to remove some money. The victim screamed and the offender fled to a waiting van in a nearby alley. The victim followed and hit the offender with her walking cane. The offender pushed the victim to the ground. The victim’s husband stepped in, but he was also thrown to the ground. The offender fled in the van. A witness snapped a picture of the van’s license plate and said she would turn it over to police.
Spongebob t-shirt stolen
Two men were walking near the 300 block of W. Roosevelt October 23 at 11:05 p.m. when two other men approached them and said, “Do you want to get shot? Give us your belongings.” The victims handed over an iPad, sunglasses, and a Spongebob t-shirt. The offenders fled in an old car. Police did not locate the offenders.
Cell phone theft thwarted
A woman was walking near the 100 block of W. Van Buren October 19 at 2:25 p.m. when a man grabbed her by the jacket and asked for her cell phone. She refused and witnesses started to approach. The offender fled. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offender.
Doorman gets sprayed
A doorman was holding a door for a female resident of a building located on the 2000 block of S. Michigan October 18 at 6:05 p.m. when another woman walked in behind the first woman. The man got in to a verbal altercation with the second woman and she sprayed mace in his face and fled up to her apartment. Police arrived and tried to make contact with the offender, but they could not find her. The victim had redness in his facial area, but refused medical attention.
Woman threatened at gunpoint
A woman was driving on the 600 block of W. 16th October 19 at 12:50 p.m. when a man pulled up next to her and pointed a black handgun at her. The offender yelled, “B-tch, you think I’m playing with you. You think it’s sweet?” The victim drove away to the police station to make a report. The victim told police she saw the offender leaving her house after a recent burglary. She also told officers she was battered by a man who owned the car that the offender was driving. The woman said she believes the offender might try to harm her because he knows her from the neighborhood and where she lives.
