A man entered a hotel on the 100 block of S. Franklin October 5 at 4:40 p.m. and asked the clerk for change in several denominations. During the exchange, the clerk became confused and felt the man asking for change scammed him out of $70. When he realized this, the clerk confronted the man, who fled the scene.

Robbed at the donut store

A woman was walking near the 100 block of N. Wabash October 11 at 3:45 p.m. when a man approached her telling her he found some money. The woman ignored the man and entered a nearby donut store. As she sat down, the man came inside with a friend. The man pulled out a hunting type knife and asked her if her earrings were real. The man demanded them as well as her necklace. She handed them over to the offenders. After this, they demanded she walk outside. One of the offenders took a picture of the victim with his cell phone. As the offenders and the victim walked outside, one of the offenders told the woman not to look back or he would kill her. The men took $100 from the woman’s purse and then fled. While they were walking one of the men said he worked at McDonald’s.

Burglary on Racine

A woman returned to her home on the 1000 block of S. Racine September 30 at 4:45 p.m. and found a window screen on her rear bedroom pried open. A witness told police a man pried the screen open and entered the house through the window, took some items and fled. The woman said a digital camera, a ruby ring and $600 were missing.

Rape in the Loop

A woman was walking west near 100 E. Jackson October 11 at 4:35 p.m. heading to a CTA train, when a man grabbed her and pulled her in to an alley. He said, “Baby, you need to get on the ground.” She struggled with the man and fell to the ground. The man pulled her pants down and had brief intercourse. The man covered her mouth and tried to get her to smoke something he was smoking. She screamed and struggled and was finally able to get up and run away. The offender chased her for two blocks, but gave up. The woman entered a nearby store and called her mother. The victim’s father arrived on the scene and took her to Northwestern hospital for treatment. Police noted that the woman had no dirt on her clothes, no marks or bruising on her face or arms and did not display any physical signs of struggle.

Robbed at gunpoint on CTA

A man was on the CTA blue line near the 600 block of S. Clinton October 11 at 12:25 a.m. when another man got on a train and sat down next to him. The man that sat down started talking to the first man about gangs and how a gangbanger that looked like the first man killed his brother. The second man said that he had friends waiting for him at the Clark and Lake stop. The second man then pulled out a revolver and told the first man he was going to kill him. The offender asked the victim for his cell phone which the victim handed over. The victim waited for a stop after the offender got off and then ran home and called police.

Students robbed at gunpoint

A woman and a man were walking back to their dorm on the 800 block of S. Clark October 11 at 9:05 a.m. when they were approached by three men who pulled out blue steel handguns. One of the offenders said to the male victim, “Give me your money and state ID.” One of the offenders took the woman’s purse and ordered both victims to lie on the ground. One of the offenders began to touch the female victim’s buttock and breasts. One of the offenders took the male victims gym shoes, wallet, iPod and cell phone. The offenders told the victims they had 60 seconds to get off the ground before we “start shooting.” The victims and the offenders fled.

Car burglar arrested

A woman returned to her Toyota Corolla parked near her house on the 700 block of S. Financial on October 11 at 7 p.m.. She saw a man rummaging through her car. She called police who arrived and witnessed the man going in and out of vehicles on the street. Police arrested the man and transported him to the first district police station for processing.
