Neighbor takes from neighbor

A man returned to his apartment in the 1500 block of West 17th Street at 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 1 and noticed his front door was broken. The man noticed his Epson printer and an XBox game system were missing. Some witnesses told him that a boy living across the hall stole the items.
The victim confronted the boy who said he did not take the items. While the victim waited for the boy’s parents to show up, the victim got a call that the offender was on his back porch trying to hide the items that he stole.
Police arrived and caught the boy moving the stolen items. The items were returned to the victim. The boy was transported to the 12th District police station for processing.
Car break-in
A woman parked her 2007 Chevrolet in the 700 block of West Randolph Street on Oct. 2 at 1:54 p.m. and went clubbing. When she returned a few hours later, she discovered her car had been broken in to and her $150 Coach purse containing $200 in jewelry, an MP3 player and miscellaneous CDs missing.
Man steals car from friend
A woman lent her car to a friend in the 300 block of South Peoria on Sept. 1 at 3:05 p.m. A month later she still hadn’t gotten her car back. She asked for her car back on numerous occasions.
The offender refused to return her car and said, “If you report this car stolen, you will never drive again.” The woman feared she would be battered and reported the theft to police.
iPad stolen
A man was walking home near the 800 block of West Monroe on Oct. 2 at 6:15 p.m. when another man talking on his cellphone walked up behind him. The man on the cellphone grabbed the other man’s iPad from his hand and fled east on Monroe.
Car stolen
A man parked his 1998 Dodge in the 2000 block of South Desplaines on Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. When he returned a few hours later, the car was missing. Police checked to see if the vehicle had been towed. It had not been towed.
Illegal withdrawals
A woman residing in the 200 block of West Jackson told police she gave her friend the information for her checking account on Sept. 23 at 12:50 a.m., so that her friend could deposit some money in to her account. The friend deposited $1,800, but then reportedly shared the account info with a paycheck cashing business that has subsequently withdrawn $2,270.34 since the deposit.
Power tools purloined
A man parked his 2002 Dodge in the 2200 block of West Madison on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. He returned a few hours later and found someone had broken in and taken all of his power tools valued at approximately $1,400.
House burgled
A woman returned to her home in the 1600 block of West Madison Street on Sept. 30 at 10:20 a.m. and discovered her window screen cut and a window pried open. A television and a VCR/DVD player were missing. Police discovered a video security system in the building’s courtyard and requested footage from the cameras for their investigation.
Bag taken
A woman left her computer bag in a building in the 1300 block of West Taylor Street on Sept. 30 at 12:32 p.m. She realized she forgot it and then returned to the building a few minutes later and found the bag, which held a digital camera, a laptop, an 80 GB iPod and a leather-bound journal was gone.
Burglary on Blue Island
A woman left her home in the 1200 block of Blue Island on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. for 15 minutes. When she returned she found her front window slightly open. She entered her house and found her TV, Playstation system, various video games and clothes missing.
The victim told police that before she left the house, a man knocked on her door and asked for someone who didn’t live there. She said she saw the man as she was leaving and suspected he burglarized her residence.
