Police apprehended three teens that intimidated a man in the bathroom of the Southwater Metra station, at 150 N. Michigan Ave., on July 7. While in the bathroom, the victim was encountered by the three teens, and one started yelling homophobic slurs.

In the wake of several muggings that have taken place recently in the South Loop and garnered attention on social media networks like Twitter and EveryBlock, the Chicago Police have issued a community alert describing the offenders and their modus operandi.

Kolby Craig, 35 of Chicago, is accused of hijacking a Dodge van belonging to his ex-girlfriend on the first block of East Cermak Road on June 27. Craig allegedly approached the car's driver and told her that he wanted the van.

A man was assaulted and robbed on the sidewalk along the 500 block of West Madison Street on the afternoon of June 21. The victim said that he was talking on his cell phone when an unknown offender armed with a knife and wearing a clown mask accosted him. The offender grabbed and ripped the victim’s shirt and put a knife to his chest.

A teenager was the victim of an armed robbery in the 100 block of North Clinton Street on June 14 as several teenagers confronted him in an alley. The victim was downtown with friends and got separated, and soon thereafter seven male teenagers confronted him. One offender yanked an earpiece off the victim’s head that was attached his cell phone.

A man riding in a car in the 100 block of North Lake Shore Drive was shot June 10 at around 4:00 in the morning. The victim told police that while in the backseat of a car going southbound, he heard four to five loud gunshots and felt pain in his right buttocks.

Three teens have been arrested in one of the two bus robberies that happened in University Village over the weekend.

Police and community leaders are urging near North Side residents to stay vigilant against crime both on their streets and in the courts. Shaken by a recent string of violent robberies and "mob actions" involving groups of offenders that resonated throughout the city's lakefront area, neighbors in the North Side neighborhood met with community police from the 19th District and Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) on Monday night to discuss the finer points of crime prevention in their ward.

Mobs of teenagers rushed onto two CTA buses in University Village last weekend, attacking bus riders and stealing cells phones and other property. The attacks, one on Saturday around 11:40 p.m. and one on Sunday around 12:05 a.m. - just 25 minutes later - bear a striking similarity to the sudden attacks that have plagued the city’s downtown area recently.
