Man beaten unconscious

A man was walking near the 200 block of S. State St. September 24 at 8:45 a.m. when multiple men approached him from behind and started beating him with a bat. The victim lost consciousness and doesnĄ¯t remember any details from the incident. He had bruising and lacerations to his hands and feet. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

Beaten and robbed

A man and a woman were walking near the 100 block of E. 16th St. September 26 at 3:35 a.m. when another man and woman approached and pushed them to the ground. The offenders grabbed a purse from the female victim and fled south. Police arrived and found the male victim had blood and mud on his head. Police searched the area, but did not locate the offenders.

Gun and weed

Police were touring near the 100 block of W. Van Buren September 22 at 11:20 a.m. looking for offenders of a recent robbery when they spotted some men who matched a description of the people they were looking for. Police stopped the men for a field interview and noticed the strong odor of cannabis emanating from one of the men. The policeman asked the man why he smelled like weed. The man said, "I have some in my pocket." Police detained the man and recovered a bag containing suspected marijuana. A search of his blue backpack yielded a loaded Beretta handgun.

Student robbed

A man was doing some homework in a park located on the 200 block of E. Jackson September 22 at 10 p.m. when he noticed a man who was upset sitting on a bench a few feet away. The student approached the upset man and asked if everything was ok. The angry man grabbed the student, twisted his arm and said, "DonĄ¯t be so trusting. Empty your pockets." The victim gave the offender his iPhone, a wallet and a black bag containing a Nikon camera. The victim was in shock and sat near a tree for a while before he walked to his school and reported the incident to security.

Burglary

A woman returned to her home on the 1100 block of S. Plymouth September 21 at 1:10 p.m. and found $200, a computer, her wallet, and a telephone missing. The front door had been forced open.

Cubicle crime

A woman left her cubicle at her job located in a building on the 1700 block of W. 18th September 17 at 4:40 p.m. When she returned a few minutes later, she noticed her wallet and iPod missing. Police had no leads.

Court battle taken to the streets

A man and a woman left a court proceeding near the 500 block of W. Harrison September 23 at 10:15 a.m. and started arguing on the sidewalk. Both the man and the woman started yelling at each other and claimed to police that they were each threatened with a knife. Police did not recover a knife from the scene. No arrests were made.

Panhandler punches man

A man and a woman were on their way to a theatre near the 100 block of W. Lake September 26 at 6:47 p.m. when a man approached and asked them for change. The man told the panhandler to move on and pushed him to the side when he failed to yield. The panhandler then punched the man in the face and started running west on Lake. The victim gave chase and detained the offender at 47 W. Lake. Police arrived, arrested the panhandler and charged him with battery.

BMX bandit attack

A woman was walking near the 800 block of S. State September 24 at 5:35 p.m. when an unknown offender snatched her iPhone and punched her in the face with a fist before fleeing on a BMX bike north on Dearborn. The victim sustained a swollen right eye and a bruised swollen wrist, but refused medical attention. Police searched the area, but did not locate the offender.
