Two women woke up in their house located in the 1400 block of S. Campus Parkway on Sept. 18 at 8 a.m. and found their basement window screen popped out and their first floor ransacked. They searched the house and found someone had taken $300 in cash and more than $4,000 of electronics. The victims told police they heard dogs barking during the night, but ignored the sound.

Car break-in

A woman parked her 2005 Hyundai Sonata in the 2100 block of S, Morgan on Sept. 17 at 10:15 p.m. She returned a few hours later and found someone had broken the passenger side front window and taken 20 music CDs and a bag of business receipts.

Robbed while they slept

Wallet pinched from purse

A woman was dining at a restaurant in the 200 block of N. Clinton on Sept. 17 at 9:20 p.m. when she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse which had been sitting on the floor. The manager of the restaurant told police he saw a man and woman come in to the restaurant, sit down for a few minutes and then leave. The restaurant did not have a security camera, so there was no footage of the suspects.

Drunk panhandler arrested

A woman was standing on a CTA train platform in the 200 block of S. Wabash on Sept. 10 at 7:20 p.m. when another man approached and asked the woman for change. She pretended to ignore the panhandler by talking on her cellphone. The panhandler then began yelling obscenities and hit her on the arm. A witness called police officers, who arrived and detained the offender. The offender reportedly told police, “I’ve been drinking vodka and gin.” He was arrested and charged with battery.

Knife wielding man cut down by police

A man was walking in the 200 block of N. State on Sept. 9 at 6:20 p.m. when another man approached, pulled out a knife and said, “I’ll cut you.” Police arrived and struggled with the offender. They eventually detained him and charged him with aggravated assault.

Liquor heist halted

A man entered a grocery store located in the 100 block of N. Halsted on Sept. 17, grabbed a bottle of Jose Cuervo and Effen vodka, put them in his backpack and attempted to leave the store without paying. A clerk for the store grabbed the offender. The offender escaped, but he dropped his bag. Police searched the bag and found a bail bond and paperwork indicating the owner’s identity.

911 operator has her own emergency

A 911 operator told police that she discovered someone had stolen her operator headset from her locker at work at a building located in the 1400 block of W. Madison on Sept. 13 at 2:37 p.m.

Car thief nabs power saw haul

A man parked his car in the 300 block of N. Canal on Sept. 14 at 3:24 p.m. He returned a few hours later and found that someone had shattered the front passenger window of his car. A Dewalt chopsaw had been stolen from the car. A witness standing nearby told the victim that the thief was driving a late model Chevy with Illinois plates.

An inside job?

An employee for the city of Chicago called police on Sept. 17 at 11:10 a.m. and said he noticed a drill was missing from the rear section of a public library located in the 1800 block of S. Loomis. The section had been closed for remodeling. The man told police only city employees have access to the section.
