Men shot in courtyard

A couple of men were standing in a courtyard on the 1300 block of W. 13th August 22 at 4:35 a.m. when they heard about 20 gun shots. The men ran to a nearby car, but were struck by some of the rounds. One man was shot in the foot, while the other was shot in the leg. The men were transported to the hospital for treatment. The victims told police they did not see who fired the gun.

Man robbed walking to hotel

A man was walking to his hotel near the 100 block of S. Des Plaines August 14 at 10:15 a.m. when three men approached him and asked for a cigarette. The man refused. One of the other three men said, “I know you have cigarettes in that bag of yours. Give us one.” The offender then started to pull at the victim’s bag and then threw a punch. The victim let go of his bag and fled the scene to avoid injury. The victim told police the bag contained a large Gucci bag, a Louis Vuitton wallet and $200 cash, a Canon camera and a laptop. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offenders.

Man seeks first shooting victim

A man was standing on the 1300 block of W. 18th Place August 20 at 4:47 a.m. talking to friends when another man pulled up in his car and pointed a shotgun out of the car window and said, “Shut the f-ck up or you’ll be my first.” The man standing outside went inside his house and called the police. The offender fled.

Man shot near Michigan

Two men were walking near the 1900 block of S. Michigan August 20 at 9:20 p.m. when they heard 4-5 gunshots behind them. One of the men felt a pain in his left leg and fell to the ground. An ambulance arrived and paramedics transported the man to the hospital for a gunshot wound to his calf. Both of the men told police they did not see where the gunshots came from.

Political debate over Lollapalooza turns ugly

A very intoxicated man approached a police officer on the 100 block of S. Michigan August 8 at 9:10 p.m. and started talking to the officer about how he was really mad because of the lack of African American acts at Lollapalooza. The officer repeatedly asked the man to keep walking, but he refused. The officer then walked away from the man, but the offender followed and put his hand in the officer’s face. The officer, in fear of being battered, tried to subdue the offender, but the offender pulled away. The officer eventually took the offender in to custody and charged him with assault.

Mysterious shooting on the west side

Police responded to a call of shots fired on the 1700 block of W. Cullerton on August 21 at 3:18 a.m. and found a man lying in the street between two parked cars. The man was uncooperative and wouldn’t speak with the officers. The man had two gunshot wounds, one to his left ankle and another to his right thigh. He was taken to the hospital and treated. Police recovered two shell casings from the scene and a witness told them she saw four males leave the scene in an unknown car.

‘Fancy’ man fleeced

A man was walking to see his friend on the 1800 block of W. 17th August 21 at 8:10 a.m. when someone approached him from behind and pulled on his right arm. The man who pulled his arm then said, “Hey, man! You look fancy. Do you have anything to share with your poor neighbor?” Fearing for his life the victim handed over his wallet. The offender took $60 and then fled. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offender.

Arts association burgled

An employee for an arts association located on the 2200 block of S. Halsted entered their offices on August 21 at 1 p.m. and found that someone had entered their suite and taken a computer, a camera, and more than thousand dollars in tools and other items.

Parking attendant booth knocked over

A parking attendant left his booth on the 1600 block of W. Harrison August 22 at 8:45 a.m.. When he returned a few moments later, he found someone had entered the booth and taken $60 from his cash register. Police reviewed security footage of the incident but had no leads.
