Man hit by stray bullet

Police arrived to the 1800 block of S. Desplaines July 10 at 4:50 a.m. and found a man sitting in a parked car holding his neck. A woman sitting in the car told police she and her husband were in the car talking when they heard loud noises, which she believed to be firecrackers. She then saw her husband was shot in the neck. The man was transported to Stroger Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Chain ripped from man’s neck

A man was standing in the 700 block of S. Clark June 23 at 1:30 p.m. when another man approached and asked him what time it was. He told him he didn’t know. The other man grabbed a chain around his neck and pulled it off. The victim grabbed the offender, but he slipped free. The offender fled in an older model station wagon.

Laptop and GPS: gone

A man returned to his car parked in the 500 block of S. Claremont July 11 at 9:08 a.m. and found someone had broken into his front passenger side window and taken a $400 GPS unit and a $500 laptop.

Coach purse copped from car

On July 10 at 9:28 p.m., a woman returned to her car, which she had parked in the 1400 block of W. Polk. She found her passenger side door window broken and her $300 Coach purse missing.

Disappearing Dodge

A man parked his 2008 Dodge Charger in the 200 block of S. Halsted July 11 at 6:00 a.m. When he returned ten minutes later the car was missing. Police verified that the car hadn’t been towed.

Curbside take-away

A woman was standing on the curb near the 1300 block of S. Damen July 11 at 7:25 p.m. when she set down her bag, containing a computer and some medical records. She walked away for a second and when she returned, the bag was gone. A witness told her a woman in her mid-twenties drove up in a Red Ford Explorer, got out of the car and took the bag and fled.

Red Line drug bust

Police noticed a man walking between trains on the Red Line near the 1100 block of S. State June 29 at 11:15 p.m. They arrested the man and performed a protective search which turned up a plastic baggy containing a green leafy substance suspected as cannabis. The man was transported to the 1st District police station.

Burglars leave home in disarray

A woman returned to her home in the 1000 block of S. Lytle July 10 at 8:20 p.m. and found her rear door unlocked and a side window forced open. She toured her home and found it in disarray. A laptop, plasma television, Nikon camera, pearl necklace and a Nintendo Wii were missing. Police toured the area, but did not locate any offenders.

Blackberry picked-off

A woman told police she saw a man in his mid-twenties take her Blackberry phone while it was connected to a wall charger in a common area of a university building located in the 1900 block of W. Van Buren July 9 at 8 p.m. The woman told police she did not know the offender.

The purloining parking attendant

A woman left her car with a valet for a restaurant located on the 200 block of S. Halsted and ate dinner. When her car was returned, a change purse containing identification cards and $40 was missing.

Store clerk robbed at knifepoint

A man walked in to a store located in the 1800 block of S. Ashland July 9 at 12:08 p.m., looked around, pulled out a knife and put it to the clerk’s stomach and told him to open the register “or else.” The clerk did so, giving the man $500. The offender fled. The clerk had minor scratches on his stomach. Police requested surveillance camera footage of the incident.

Brother suspected in burglary

A woman told police she suspects her brother used a pry bar to open a side door and gain entry to her house in the 2000 block of S. Allport July 10 at 12:25 a.m. while she was gone. Her stereo was missing. She says she suspects her brother because he is drug addict and has stolen from her before.
