A man parked his 1993 Infiniti in the 1600 block of W. Ogden June 26 at 4:55 p.m. When he returned a few hours later, he saw a man dressed in black breaking the passenger side window of his car and removing his silver iPod. The thief fled west on Monroe. The victim called police who toured the area, but could not find the offender.

Financial shenanigans

A manager for a company located in the 800 block of W. Fulton said June 26 at 10:46 a.m. that one of his employees who handled the financial aspects of the business absconded with a company check valued at $3,250. The check had been cashed at a currency exchange on Armitage.

An inside job?

A woman said she left $500 on top of her television and went to bed in her apartment, located in the 1300 block of W. 15th on June 26 at 3 a.m. She woke, went to work and then received a call from her boyfriend a few hours later reporting that the money was missing. There were no signs of forced entry, but the woman requested that her landlord change her locks.

X-Box ripped off

A man left his residence in the 1000 block of S. Racine June 25 at 9:55 p.m. When he returned a few hours later he found someone had taken his X-Box gaming system. There were no signs of forced entry.

Luggage stolen from parked car

A man parked his car in the 1100 block of W. Adams June 23 at 5:45 p.m. and when he returned a few hours later, he found someone had taken a piece of luggage from the car containing $400, miscellaneous identification and credit cards.

Knife-point store robbery

A man and a woman entered a small retail store in the 100 block of S. Michigan June 24 at 6:10 p.m. The woman looked at merchandise while the man stood near the cash register. When all the other customers left, the clerk asked the man if he was going to buy something. The man put his hands on the counter, displayed a knife and said, “I ain’t buying anything. Give me everything you got.” The clerk gave the offender all the bills (an unknown amount) in the register. The offenders fled. Police did not locate the offenders.

The case of the high-rise flasher

A woman reported that she saw a man standing in a window in an apartment on the eleventh floor of a building located in the 500 block of S. State June 27 at 12:45 a.m. The man exposed himself. The victim believed the man knew she was watching and was intentionally exposing himself.

TP-stealing bandit strikes

A woman returned to her apartment in the 1500 block of S. Wabash June 24 at 11:20 p.m. and found her front door open and her coins, a roll of toilet paper, silverware and a spare house key missing. The woman filed a police report so her management company would change the locks on her apartment.

iSwindle

A man was standing near a restaurant in the 2100 block of S. State June 25 at 4:05 p.m. when another man approached and asked him he wanted to buy a cheap iPod. The victim said that he did and he went with the seller to get $60 from an ATM. After withdrawing the money, the seller snatched the money from the buyer “to count it.” The seller followed the buyer back to the restaurant. The seller told the buyer to wait while he found the man with the iPod. The seller then disappeared.

Man robbed at gunpoint

A man was walking in an alley near the 2000 block of W. 21st June 24 at 1:45 a.m. when two men approached him. One of the men brandished a handgun, and pointed it at the victim’s head and ordered him to get in his car. While the victim was driving, the offenders took his wallet and cell phone. They ordered him to stop the car near Cermak and Wentworth and told him he was lucky to be alive. The offenders pushed the victim out of the car and fled. The victim suffered a minor injury to his left hand, but refused medical attention. The police could not locate the offenders.

This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st and 12th districts of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
