A teenager was the victim of an armed robbery in the 100 block of North Clinton Street on June 14 as several teenagers confronted him in an alley.
The victim was downtown with friends and got separated, and soon thereafter seven male teenagers confronted him. One offender yanked an earpiece off the victim’s head that was attached his cell phone. The offender then made demands that the victim gave up his possessions. When the victim refused, he was hit in the back of the head, causing minor injuries.
The teens then menacingly surrounded the victim and the offender who yanked the earpiece off produced a dark colored handgun. The teen demanded again that the victim give up his possessions, and the victim — fearing for his life — complied. The victim handed over his cell phone, $3 and a CTA bus card. All the offenders then fled the scene.
A Good Samaritan arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and gave the victim a ride to the CTA Orange Line station. The victim then went home and it was not until at home that he notified police of the robbery.
Carjacking in West Loop
Two people hijacked an Audi sedan at the 100 block of North Jefferson Street in the early morning hours of June 19.
The two people in the Audi had stopped the car and an offender approached one of the victims while she was standing outside her vehicle. The first offender started a conversation with the victim, then the second offender pushed her to the ground with his hands. The first offender then entered the vehicle and drove off, with the second victim hanging on the vehicle for about 15 feet before she let go.
While the first offender fled west in the vehicle, the second offender ran away southbound on foot.
Drive-by robbery
A car passenger robbed and assaulted a pedestrian in the 300 block of South Dearborn Street during the early morning hours of June 14.
A victim who had just left the CTA Blue Line station started to walk south on Dearborn when a white vehicle pulled up beside him. The passenger asked the victim a question and the victim bent over to hear what the passenger said.
The passenger then grabbed the victim by the shirt, put a medium size kitchen knife to his throat, and said, “Give me all you got.”
The victim gave the passenger his wallet, containing ID cards and a debit card. The vehicle then sped off west. The victim was not physically harmed.
Two stolen cars, one block
The 1400 block of South Federal Street was the site of two car thefts in the span of 24 hours.
Sometime between the evening of June 16 and morning of June 17, a resident on that block had his Jeep Wrangler stolen from his driveway. The car owner told police that golf clubs and a men’s suit were inside the vehicle.
In a separate incident, a Mercedes-Benz was stolen from the front yard “parking pad” at a residence on the same block. That theft occurred sometime on the morning of June 17.
Disturbing scene at CTA station
James Abraham, 26, of Chicago, was arrested for violating the public peace during the evening rush hour on June 20 at the Roosevelt CTA station, 1167 S. State St.
A police officer observed Abraham drink the alcoholic beverage 211 Steel Reserve on the CTA Red Line.
When the officer confronted Abraham, he shouted obscenities and repeatedly tried to pull away from the officer. Abraham was then taken away in a police vehicle.
Parking lot armed robbery
A victim at the 20 E. Randolph St. parking lot was approached by someone asking for jumper cables on June 14. The victim proceeded to get jumper cables from his vehicle, at which point the offender pulled out a knife and demanded the victim’s money. The victim handed over $63.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
