Police are investigating an alleged assault by Terrent Brown, 45 of Chicago, a recently terminated employee of Ronny’s Steak House at 100 W. Randolph St.
The owner of Ronny’s told police that on May 23 he had to terminate Brown for assaulting one of his managers. Police then interviewed the manager, who said that on May 22 Brown was being sent home prior to his scheduled shift for insubordination.
According to the manager, Brown then grabbed a knife and brandished it in a menacing manner while shouting expletives. Two other employees then interceded and Brown was sent home without further incident.
Domestic quarrel begets burglary
A resident of the 100 block of North Harbor Drive was burglarized sometime when she was away from her home between May 27 and May 30. The victim told police that she left the residence after arguing with her husband and spent three days at her sister’s home.
Upon arriving home on the 30th, she discovered her closet ransacked and her jewelry box overturned. Hundreds of dollars worth of jewelry, watches and bracelets were missing along with a laptop with an estimated value of $800.
There were no signs of forced entry to the premises and no one has access to residence other than the victim and her husband, according to police. The husband was not on the scene at the time of the police report.
Police victims of phone harassment
An unknown offender called the 1st district police station, at 1718 S. State St., 19 times on the afternoon of May 25.
The offender — who the police report identified as “Mario” — repeatedly stated that he wanted to speak with the watch commander. All desk officers followed the chain of command and transferred the offender to the desk sergeant who asked Mario why he wanted to talk to the watch commander.
The offender refused to provide a reason and used profanity at several officers. Mario also called police headquarters — saying that he wanted to speak with the watch commander that he was attorney representing himself.
The police report deadpans that, “These calls disrupted the performance of the desk duties due to continuous calls to the desk without knowledge of what the calls were for.”
Fire department vehicle robbed
A Chicago Fire Department vehicle at 324 S. Desplaines St. that had been left unlocked was burglarized between the evening of May 23 and morning of May 24.
An unknown offender broke into the vehicle to steal a rechargeable flashlight valued at $125, a Firefly Personal Alert Safety System alarm valued at $100 and a camera valued at $2,000.
Parent threatened for son not joining gang
The parent of a disabled 25-year-old who suffers from ADHD claimed that two gang members followed her down the 100 block of East Monroe Street on May 27.
The parent told police that the two offenders were following her in retaliation for her son not joining their gang.
The offenders — who the police report did not identify — were summoned to appear in court June 8.
Expensive bike swiped
A Gary Fisher Mendota bike with an estimated value of $1,200 was stolen in the Loop May 29. The victim told police that he had locked his bike outside 10 N. Michigan Ave. and that the thief had cut the victim’s bike lock cable to steal the bike.
Phone stolen at Caribou Coffee
A victim had his cell phone swiped at Caribou Coffee, 20 N. Michigan Ave. on May 27. According to the police report, the victim was “enjoying a cup of coffee” and “playing with his laptop” when the offender begged him for money. When the victim refused, the offender picked up his Streetwise newspaper from the tabletop, along with the victim’s phone.
