Two customers robbed a taxi driver, while stopping outside City Hall shortly after midnight on April 28. According to the driver, two people flagged his cab down at Jackson and LaSalle streets and requested to stop the cab at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St.

Upon exiting the cab, one of the offenders asked for change. The driver reached to hand over change when the same offender grabbed the victim’s wallet — which contained multiple credit cards, a driver’s license and $800. The driver then left the vehicle to try and retrieve the stolen property. A brief struggled ensued with both customers grabbing the driver and one customer threatening to cut the victim’s throat.

The offenders then fled and were briefly chased by two unknown people. The offenders got away though, as police who subsequently toured the area could not find them.

Stickup of driver

A driver who stopped her car in the 100 block of West Harrison Street to check her GPS was the victim of an apparent armed robbery April 26.

As the victim stopped her vehicle, a car pulled behind her and an offender exited the vehicle. The offender carried something in his right hand that the victim was positive was a gun. The offender said, “Hi girl, give me all your money” and the victim then handed over $100. The offender next returned to the dark colored vehicle, where two accomplices were waiting, and drove away.

Bank fraud

A woman appears to have lost more than $2,000 due to financial identity theft. The victim of the fraud told police April 27 that she had recently been unsuccessful in trying to login to her Chase bank account. When she contacted Chase, she was told her password changed on April 17 — but she had not changed her password.

The victim next spoke to a fraud representative who told her that wire transfers — each for a little over $1,000 — were made from her checking account. The victim said she did not know the recipient of the transfers, and Chase put a stop to her account.

The victim suspects that the fraud happened at her doctor’s office. The victim said that both patients and staff there have been victims of financial theft.

Not a good image of Chicago

Someone visiting Chicago from Sweden had stopped at the Park Grill at 11 N. Michigan Ave. for some drinks and placed his $550 Panasonic camera on the back of his chair. When the victim went to exit the bar, the camera had been swiped from the chair.

Easy vehicle theft

A 2006 Toyota Solara convertible parked at the 100 block of West Lake Street was stolen April 28. The victim told police that he had left the keys in the ignition, the motor running, and the doors unlocked. The victim stated that upon returning to his car — after a few minutes away — the vehicle was gone. The criminal mastermind behind this theft remains at large.

This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
