An Easter morning burglary at Beauty One beauty supply store, 616 W. Roosevelt Rd., resulted in the theft of 70 natural hair wigs with a total value of $85,000.
Police responded to a burglar alarm April 24 and on arriving, observed the rear door pried open, wigs stolen and several items knocked to the ground. Video security cameras revealed three males prying the rear door open and making their escape in a white van parked in the back of the building
Assault outside club
An assault happened in the early morning hours of April 17 outside the Pink Monkey gentlemen’s club at 750 S. Clinton St.
The person reporting the assault told police that his brother was involved in a verbal altercation with a bouncer outside the club. The person said that two witnesses saw the bouncer come from behind his brother, pick him up and throw him to the ground. The bouncer’s action resulted in the victim hitting his head on the concrete, which caused swelling.
The victim could not recall to police what happened to him, and the two witnesses left the scene before police arrived. The victim was sent to the Stroger Emergency Trauma Unit where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.
Pink Monkey Club has surveillance cameras, but — according to the original incident report — it is unknown if the cameras caught the assault.
Assault outside restaurant
Christian Avillaneda of Chicago, 20, was charged with battery after allegedly cutting an employee at the 131 S. Clinton St. Jimmy John’s with a knife.
The employee told police that Avillaneda approached him April 20 and repeatedly asked how much his paycheck was. The employee replied, “Don’t talk to me.” The two then went outside after which the Avillaneda pulled a pocket knife and waved it at the victim cutting him on the right hand. Police soon arrived on the scene and arrested Avillaneda.
Booze thieves caught on tape
A partner in running the Martini Bar at 401 S. LaSalle St. apparently justified his expense in installing security cameras in his liquor storage room beneath the bar when he caught two liquor thieves on tape. The surveillance cameras allegedly showed Michael Franz, 36 of Grayslake, and George Serban, 20 of Elgin, stealing Chivaz Regal and Grey Goose vodka.
The Martini Bar partner told police that he had recently noticed shortages in his liquor inventory. On entering the bar April 22, the partner reviewed surveillance video and observed Franz and Serban, who he knew to be employees in the building, entering the storage room and removing the liquor bottles.
Police were then called and located Franz and Serban without incident. Serban told police that Franz had sent him a text message to meet in the Martini Bar basement if he wanted “Goose.” Serban also said that he and Franz reentered the room so they could rearrange the bottles and hide the theft. Franz admitted that he used an employee key to enter the storage room and take the booze.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st District of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
