An armed robbery took place April 15 outside of 630 W. Harrison St., the address for the Chicago Greyhound bus station.

The victim was approached by an unknown man who pulled out a handgun and told the victim to walk across the street to a van. The victim complied and the offender then struck the victim above the head and swiped his wallet from his pocket. The wallet had $1,200 in cash as well as a cell phone with an estimated value of $400. The offender got into the vehicle with an accomplice and fled westbound on Harrison.

Robbery in South Loop alley

An armed robbery took place April 15 in an alley in the 1100 block of South Wabash Avenue.

A victim was approached by two unknown male offenders and one pulled out a two-tone semi automatic handgun from his pocket. The man with the gun said, “Where’s the money?” and then started going through the victim’s pocket. He removed a cell phone with an approximate value of $600 as well as a debit card and $100 in cash.

The offender without the gun then fled eastbound, but the armed offender went westbound and approached a second victim. The offender once again demanded money, but this time just stole a cell phone after going through the victim’s pockets. The offender had fled the area by the time police arrived.

Rogue security guard at McDonald’s

A security guard at McDonald’s was charged with aggravated assault and put into police custody April 18 for threatening a customer with a gun.

A customer said that she dined at the McDonald’s at 50 E. Adams St. and returned to the restaurant when she discovered she had left her bag. The victim said she approached security guard William Peeler, 34 of Downers Grove, about the bag and that Peeler grew upset. Peeler then grabbed his pistol and threatened to shoot the victim if she didn’t leave. Fearing for her safety, the victim fled the restaurant to the nearby CTA train station and called police.

Two witnesses, including a McDonald’s manager, confirmed the victim’s story. Peeler told police he did not have an Illinois Firearms Control Card in his possession, saying the paperwork for such a card was being processed.

CTA security guard robbed on platform

A security guard was the victim of an armed robbery on the Randolph and Wabash CTA platform in the Loop April 17.

The guard was making his rounds to lock up the station at 1:30 in the morning when he told the offender that the station was closed. The offender replied, “I know that — don’t move; don’t go anywhere.” He then put a small black handgun to the victim’s chest. The offender next took $20 and a CTA fare guard from the victim’s back pocket and fled eastbound.

Forced ATM withdrawal

A victim was forced to withdraw $900 at knifepoint from a Chase ATM machine at 717 S. Dearborn St. on April 13.

Someone exiting the State and Polk CTA Red Line station was approached by an offender who requested to use the victim’s phone. When the victim refused, the offender demanded the phone. The victim said that he could give the offender cash instead.

The offender then declared that he had a knife and took the victim to the Chase ATM. The offender and victim proceeded to enter and leave the ATM three times and make eight transactions, withdrawing $900 in $20 bills. The offender forced the victim back to the Red Line CTA station, and the offender then fled on a southbound train.
