A homeless man was found beaten on park property at the 800 block of South Michigan Avenue the night of March 25. Police said that they have made an arrest in the case, but did make available a supplementary detective report that would identify the suspect.

A witness discovered the victim laying on the ground and bleeding from his head. The witness telephoned police who arrived on the scene to find the victim standing on the sidewalk and wearing nothing but a T-shirt and one shoe. He was unable to speak and had no personal property.

Police transported the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Put herself on the payroll twice

A former employee of Bear Brokerage LLC at 141 W. Jackson Blvd. is charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from the company.

A witness to the embezzlement claimed to police March 25 that Chicago resident Sundae Miller, 35, had set up a second payroll account for herself and used it to steal up to $75,000. The witness also said that Miller had run up a $20,000 tab on the company credit card for personal items and that company personnel files of Miller’s were missing.

Bear Brokerage had already fired Miller on March 1.

Pricy theft on the bus

A student lost several expensive items in a March 21 CTA bus theft. The victim told police that she was on a crowded bus downtown that was headed southbound on Lake Shore Drive.

The victim placed her backpack beside her on the seat and on arriving at her destination found the backpack missing. The pack contained her ThinkPad laptop, a Nikon digital camera, a leather wallet, a straw hat, leather gloves, and her college ID. The items have a total estimated value of around $1,600.

The victim also discovered her Chinese-issued visa missing. She was able to receive a new visa from the Chinese embassy.

Stealing the boss’ TV

A resident at the 400 block of East Waterside Drive told police that on returning home March 22 he fired James A. Casmano, who was working at the resident’s home.

The reason? The resident said Casmano stole his 55-inch television valued, at $4,000. Casmano also allegedly took $200 in electric equipment.

Bomb threat to Daley Center

An anonymous tipster called police the morning of March 22 to say that there was a bomb in the Daley center set to detonate in less than 30 minutes. Police went to the Daley center and conducted a search of the building. They found nothing suspicious and chose not to evacuate the building.

Two restaurants, two stolen iPhones

A customer at the Flat Top Grill at 30 S. Wabash Ave. said that on March 22 a man saw her iPhone placed on the table and approached her. The offender then placed his newspaper to cover the victim’s phone. He next removed the phone and fled the restaurant.

In a separate incident, a patron was eating at the McDonald’s at 186 W. Adams St. on March 25 when someone walked to his table and stole his iPhone. The thief then fled the McDonald’s, running north on Wells Street.
