Gun-toter snatches purse

A woman was walking near the 1900 block of S. Michigan March 19 at 1:46 p.m. when a man approached from behind and grabbed her purse. She tried to hold on to it, but the offender pulled on her shoulder with both hands. She heard a loud pop and felt a sharp pain and stinging in her upper right arm. The offender then grabbed the purse and fled north on Michigan. The woman chased the offender, yelling for help. The offender jumped on the hood of a nearby blue Ford car. Two nearby witnesses were able to tackle the man and call 911. While they were wrangling with the offender, a blue steel handgun fell to the ground. Police arrived and took the man into custody. The victim was transported to the hospital for bruising and scraping to her arm.
Man attacks nightclub employees with bottle
A man was asked to leave a nightclub on the 2100 block of S. Wabash March 20 at 12:27 a.m. but refused. He then picked up a bottle of Gray Goose vodka and started swinging it at the club’s employees. He was escorted out of the club and while waiting for officers to arrive, the offender said, he was going to go to his car and “get his AK and come back and shoot everyone.” Police arrived and transported the offender to the 1st District police station.
Cabbie arrested for fraudulent credentials
An employee for the city’s Department of Business Affairs observed a taxi near 500 W. Adams on March 22 at 6 p.m. with a potentially fraudulent city-issued medallion. A check revealed that the medallion belonged to a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria the offender was not driving. During an interview with police, the driver said he purchased the plates and medallion from some guy for $20. Police arrested and transported the offender to the 1st District police station.
Business office burgled
A man returned to a business office located in the 400 block of S. Dearborn March 20 at 6:08 p.m. and discovered the front door lock was sticking. As he inspected it closer, he realized someone had pried the door open and it was damaged. The employee searched the building and found $156, five checks totaling $2,046 and a $300 iPod missing.
Knife-wielding man stopped
A woman had a verbal altercation with a man at a home in the 400 block of S. Clark March 20 at 1:45 p.m. The man then displayed a kitchen knife and thrust it at the woman. The woman was able to disarm the man after a brief struggle and call police. They arrived, arrested the man and transported him to the 1st District police station for processing. While he was in custody, they also called an ambulance to treat the man for scratches and a bump to his face that he received in the struggle with the victim. The offender refused to go to the hospital.
Man batters random citizens
A man was screaming at passersby on the 100 block of S. State March 20 at noon. He eventually grabbed two people and threw them in to a wall and said, “I’m going to mess you up.” He let them go and then pushed another man to the ground. Police arrived, arrested the man and charged him with battery.
Man robbed at bus stop
A man was smoking a cigarette in a bus station located in the 500 block of W. Harrison March 22 at 3:35 p.m. when another man approached and asked him for a smoke. He gave the man a cigarette, and then the man asked for a dollar. The first man said he didn’t have any money. Another man approached, grabbed the first man by his jacket and demanded money. The man turned over his wallet, and both of the offenders fled. Police did not locate the offenders.
Man flashes toy, golden gun
A man approached a CTA ticketing booth near 200 S. Dearborn March 20 a 1:06 a.m., pulled out a gold hand gun and said, “You going to let me go through one way or the other.” The victim let the man through the turnstile and then called police. Police arrived, caught up with the offender and told him to stop walking. He started running. After a short chase, the officer captured the man, placed him on the ground and performed a search. The officer recovered the golden gun, which turned out to be a toy. He arrested the man and charged him with aggravated assault.
