Pallet purloiner gets popped

A man walked up to a warehouse in the 900 block of W. Fulton March 15 at 9:05 a.m., stole a wooden pallet from their dock and then fled. Police toured the area and found a suspect matching a description provided by the victim with a wooden pallet in his possession. Police arrested and charged the man with theft.

University Village robbery

A man was walking in an alley near his residence in the 1100 block of S. Racine March 15 at 7 p.m. when two other men approached, pointed a blue steel handgun at him and said, “Give me your money.” The victim gave his bag to offenders. They removed $40 from it, handed the bag back to the victim and fled.

Loaded gun snatched in purse

A Cook County Corrections officer was sitting on the trunk of her car talking on a cell phone on the 1200 block of W. 13th St. March 10 at 9:43 p.m. when two men approached from behind, removed her purse and fled north through a nearby courtyard. The purse contained a .45 caliber gun loaded with eight rounds, a Cook County corrections badge and house keys. Police did not locate the offenders.

Pickpocket gets tasered

A witness told police that two men, one of whom was wearing a black leather coat, approached a woman walking in the 200 block of N. Michigan March 13 at 7:16 p.m. from behind, pickpocketed her and then fled south. Officers radioed a description of the offenders to local units. An patrolman nearby noticed an offender matching the radioed description at Lake and Michigan. The officer gave chase as the offender ran up to the CTA platform at Randolph and Wabash. The offender then ran on to the train tracks. Police notified the CTA to shut off power to the tracks. While in pursuit, one of the officers tripped on the third rail and his taser accidentally discharged. The offender jumped in to a cubby hole near 31 N. Wabash, and an officer pursued him into the hole. The offender kicked the officer twice in right leg and struck him in the arm. As the officer attempted to place the man under arrest, the man continued to hit him, so the officer tasered the offender. As the offender was lifted from the cubby hole, he started hitting the officer with his right fist and was tasered again. Police finally arrested the man.

Bus ride gets ugly

A woman was standing on a CTA bus near the 100 block off W. Washington March 12 at 11:55 a.m. when a nearby seat became available. As the woman sat down in it, a man standing nearby shouted a racial slur at her. The woman told the man to repeat what he’d said. The man responded by trying to sit on the woman’s lap. The woman pushed the man off her lap. The man then hit the woman on the top of her head with his fist. A struggle ensued and the two were separated by other bus passengers. The woman called police on her cell phone. When they arrived, the woman complained of a headache, but refused medical attention.

Robbed on train platform

A man was waiting on the CTA Red Line platform near the 500 block of S. State March 14 at 7:40 p.m. when a man approached him from behind and said, “I need that phone. I need that wallet,” and started going through the victim’s pockets. The offender grabbed the victim’s wallet, but the victim tried to snatch it back. Another offender grabbed the victim and said, “Don’t move or I’ll shoot you.” The offenders then grabbed an iPhone from the victim’s pocket and fled out of the subway followed by the victim who was shouting, “Stop them.” An off-duty security officer called police and gave a description of the offenders. A nearby officer found one of the men matching the security officer’s description at 1600 S. State. The offender was arrested and transported to the1st District station.

Woman battered on the street

A woman got into a verbal altercation with two other women in the 2100 block of S. Wabash March 14 at 1:08 a.m. The two women started punching and scratching the other woman, causing swelling on right side of her face, scratches on the left side and a laceration on the right side of her nose. Police were called, officers arrived to take the offenders to the 1st District station.
