A man was robbed at gunpoint of thousands of dollars at the 1255 S. Michigan Ave. parking garage on March 2, police said.
Two men told police that the suspected offender, Robert Evrard, told them to pick him up at the W Hotel at North Lake Shore Drive, as they were going to purchase a Mercedes-Benz at the Michigan Avenue parking garage.
But after arriving at the garage, the victims found no such vehicle. The suspect then stuck a steel blue handgun to the driver’s head and told him to look straight ahead. The suspect next stuck a gun to the passenger’s head and said, “Gimme the money or I’ll shoot your head off.”
The passenger handed the suspect $17,800, which he took and then ran from the vehicle in an unknown direction.
The garage’s doorman told police there is video surveillance inside the parking garage but they have not yet successfully retrieved footage.
Residential burglaries
An offender broke into an apartment on the 600 block of West Jackson Boulevard Feb. 28 while the tenant was at work, and stole a suitcase, a home stereo iPod docking station, a digital camera, a Timex watch and a wallet with multiple credit cards.
A building employee saw the offender leaving with the suitcase and asked if he needed any help. The offender, described as a 5’8” black male in his 40s, responded that he didn’t need help and was just visiting a friend.
The employee became suspicious after the offender left the building and so he checked the security camera footage — which showed the offender using a tool to force open the building’s front door. The employee then called police. The next day the victim of the burglary called police when he discovered his suitcase missing and small pry marks around the doorknob.
A separate break-in took place March 1 on the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue. The victim said that upon her return home from work, several drawers were open and items were missing.
These included two computers, as well as two jewelry boxes with an estimated $10,000 worth of missing jewelry.
Medical office break-in
A break-in happened the night of March 5 at the Physicians Immediate Care Office at 811 S. South St.
An office employee noticed the next morning that the back door of the office was propped open with a cardboard box and that the money box located in the front office reception area was taken. The money box contained $250.
There is a camera in the front office’s reception area, but it was not recording during the time of the incident.
Jeep break-in at Whole Foods
A vehicle break-in March 3 at the Whole Foods parking lot at 1101 S. Canal St. resulted in a stolen Apple MacBook.
The victim told police that he parked his 2011 Jeep Wrangler and went into Whole Foods. Upon returning 30 minutes later, he found his passenger side window broken and computer, and computer bag, stolen.
$1,100 bike theft
A locked bike with an estimated value of $1,100 was stolen from a bike rack on the 400 block of S. Michigan Ave on March 4. The victim told police that someone cut the cables and U-lock from his men’s Trek District bicycle and then took the bike.
South Loop’s Viagra bandit
A victim who regularly parks at the 412 S. Dearborn St. garage told police that someone keeps stealing the Viagra prescription pills from his Lexus.
So as to provide evidence of the recurring crime, on the morning of March 2 the victim placed four Viagra pills in his car and then photographed the pills with a picture that indicates the date and time. He then left his car with the valet. On returning to the vehicle, the pills were stolen.
No suspects have been identified.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st and 12th districts of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
