Burglar caught under truck

A series of burglaries have occurred at a parking garage located in the 600 block of S. Clark over the last few weeks, so police were assigned to patrol the garage Feb. 20. Around 11 a.m., officers noticed a blue and silver SUV with no license plates entering the garage. Police officers entered the garage a few minutes later and found the SUV parked on the second floor with no occupants. Police exited their vehicle to investigate and found a man lying underneath a nearby 2005 GMC Envoy holding a flashlight. When police spotted him, the man ran, dropping the flashlight and fleeing down the garage ramp. Police followed, and after a brief foot chase, they apprehended the man. Police confirmed that the SUV belonged to the man and had it towed to a police station for a search. They found numerous cell phone chargers, hand tools, CDs and binoculars not belonging to the man. No charges had yet been filed at the time of the report.

Man robbed on Roosevelt

A man was walking in the 500 block of W. Roosevelt Feb. 19 at 4:30 p.m. when two other men approached him from behind and said, “Give me everything you got.” The man gave the offenders $60 and a Samsung Cell Phone. The offenders fled the scene. Police toured the area, but could not locate the offender.

Apartment robbed

A woman returned to her home on the 100 block of E. 9th Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. and discovered someone had broken into her apartment. Her Apple laptop, $200 in jewelry, a $1,200 wedding ring and her camera had been taken.

Bathroom-related battery

A woman was using a bathroom at a gas station located on the 1200 block of S. Wabash Feb. 14 at 9:15 p.m. when another woman attempted to enter the bathroom. The first woman blocked the second woman from entering. As she left the bathroom, the other woman started screaming at her, and then punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed. Police arrived, arrested and charged the offender with battery.

Students robbed

Two college students were walking near the 100 block of E. 8th Feb. 17 at 7:10 p.m. when two men wearing dark coats, grey hoods and backpacks approached. One of the men said, “Get the f— up against the wall. If you try anything I will shoot you. Give us whatever you have.” The victims gave up their wallets, a Nokia cell phone and a Blackberry cell phone. The offenders fled. Police did not locate the offenders.

Man robbed on Adams

A man was walking near the 500 block of W. Adams when a man grabbed him from behind, threw him up against a nearby building and said, “Give me everything in your pockets now.” The man gave the offender his iPhone and $30. The offender took those things and fled. Police did not locate the offender.

Crack-related cutting

A woman and man had been up all night drinking and smoking crack cocaine at a residence located on the 600 block of S. Wabash when they began fighting. The man started dragging the woman across the floor by her arm, causing scratches and scrapes to her arm. As she tried to get away, the man grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the right shoulder causing a 2” laceration that required eight stitches. The woman called police who arrived, arrested the offender and transported him to the 1st District station for processing.

Man battered on the Red Line

A man told police he was riding a Red Line train near 200 S. State Feb. 20 at 11:02 p.m. when a couple of men engaged him in conversation. The man was not clear to police as to what the men said. At first he said they had asked him for money, and then he said they asked him if he wanted to buy drugs. After the verbal exchange, the men started punching him until he lost consciousness. He eventually woke up at the Howard El station. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to his right hand and forehead. He was also intoxicated during his interview. No property had been taken from the man.

This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st and 12th districts of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
