South Looper to compete at violin competition

South Loop resident Emma Steele will compete in the Quadrennial International Violin Competition this September in Indianapolis. Steele, 20, is studying music at Carnegie Mellon University. She was one of 40 violinists, ages 17 to 29, chosen for this fall's contest.

Police station construction gears up

Landmark status for Viceroy

Aldermen approved official historic landmark status for the Viceroy Hotel, 1519-21 W. Warren, at the May 12 council meeting. The building, which was finished in 1930, is studded with terra cotta ornamentation on its façade.
