Skinner Park on the Near West Side could be getting an expansion in the near future, if a proposal from the city and the Chicago Park District goes through.
The city is pitching a plan to give a vacant plot of land at the northeast corner of Loomis and Monroe streets to the park district, along with $200,000 to remediate the site.
Skinner Park currently sits across the street from the vacant lot, lying between Laflin, Throop, Monroe and Adams streets.
According to Department of Housing and Economic Development spokesman Peter Strazzabosco, the land has been owned by the city since 1924. It held a public works facility until about two years ago, when the building was razed.
Park district spokeswoman Zvezdana Kubat said the park district has no plans for the site yet. Once the city remediates the land, the park district will conduct community meetings for the design, she said.
