Fioretti in the 7th?

Where one sits in an audience makes all the difference in catching ambient chatter. During a ceremonial ribbon cutting last week at the new Hope Institute Learning Academy, a person close to 2nd Ward Ald. Robert Fioretti happened to be discussing, with an acquaintance, a possible Fioretti run for Congress in the 7th District.
The talk centered on incumbent Congressman Danny Davis’s next move. Davis has declared he’s running for Cook County Board President against Todd Stroger, the incumbent. But Davis is hedging, too, reportedly passing petitions for the 7th District as well.
Fioretti was noncommittal when asked about the chatter in the crowd and his interest in the 7th District, a sprawling political territory that includes poor West Side neighborhoods and the height of wealth and power downtown.
“Lots of people the last few days have asked me about this,” he said. “I’m in no mood to make any decision on anything. I love being alderman of the 2nd Ward. I’m thinking about gearing up my own re-election campaign.
“I’m going to see what needs to be done.”
