With a year to go before the doors open, the National Hellenic Museum held a “coming out” party August 27 near its S. Halsted Street home.
Standing out in the 100 people gathered for the celebration were Mayor Richard M Daley, Greektown business and community leaders and Anastasios Petrovas, Consul General of Greece.
Speaking on Chicago as the choice for the museum’s home, Daley said, “Our Greek-American population is the second largest Greek population in the United States and the third largest in the world.”
Now under construction, the museum will boast 40,000 square feet and is expected to open in the late fall of 2011.
