South Loop resident Emma Steele will compete in the Quadrennial International Violin Competition this September in Indianapolis. Steele, 20, is studying music at Carnegie Mellon University. She was one of 40 violinists, ages 17 to 29, chosen for this fall’s contest.
Contestants will play for more than $250,000 in prizes, concert engagements and use of the 1683 “ex-Gingold” Stradivarius. The winner will be awarded $30,000, a Carnegie Hall recital debut and the opportunity to record a CD for Naxos.
