The Illinois Medical District Commission will gather on Jan. 26 for their first quarterly meeting of the new year. A page on the district’s Web site listed that session on Jan. 12 erroneously.
At a special meeting on Dec. 17, members of the Illinois Medical District Commission approved, on their end, a ground lease for a new Costco store.
The retailer and medical district have been negotiating a lease for 16 acres of vacant land bound by Hastings, 15th, Ashland and a CTA elevated line.
“We still do not have a signed agreement with Costco, so this is not yet a done deal,” medical district executive director Sam Pruett wrote in an e-mail. “Rather, the IMDC has approved the terms under which it will provide a master site lease to Costco should they agree to the same.”
Previously, the commission had discussed ensuring that community residents and minority enterprises had access to jobs and construction work at Costco, should the project formally go forward.
