One new Near South Side park is open, ready for runners, playgrounders and anyone else looking for a spot of green in the city.
Located at 24th and Federal, just south of what remains of the Harold Ickes Homes, the new park remains unnamed. It offers a walking path and baseball diamond.
On Jan. 12, Near South residents gathered to discuss created of a green space at 26th and Federal, near the public housing Dearborn Homes, Opera Lofts and South Loop Hotel. This park will be operated and maintained by NeighborSpace, a nonprofit that helps neighborhood-based organizations and local residents turn underutilized lots into community spaces and gardens.
