Crane High School, 2245 W. Jackson, is one of 11 Chicago Public School high schools that will host a new College and Career Academy starting this fall, according to a media statement.
The new academies will offer training in everything from culinary arts and hospitality to manufacturing, architecture and early childhood education — so-called middle-skill occupations that require more than a high school degree but less than a four-year university education.
Students will be able to apply to programs regardless of where they live.
Internships will be offered, too. CPS is partnering with the Chicago Workforce Investment Council to develop those opportunities. The local Building Trades Council is offering students 30 construction site visits, 100 job shadow opportunities, 100 spring break internships and 100 summer jobs.
The academies will be rolled at 35 CPS institutions over the next seven years.
