Over the next month we will sort out the future for Chicago Journal and Skyline. What we know today, and what we want our readers to know, is that the continuing tough economy and changes in how readers get news, even in a single city neighborhood, have taken a toll on our sincere efforts to continue publishing these papers.

And so we are exploring our options with a goal of finding new ownership for each of the papers so that they can continue forward. We might be successful. There are discussions underway to land Skyline with its coverage of the Gold Coast and its weekly fix of Ann Gerber in safe hands. And we are open to opportunities that will place Chicago Journal with owners who can move it forward.

Both Chicago Journal and Skyline have been published by Wednesday Journal, Inc., our publishing company out of Oak Park. We started Chicago Journal a dozen years ago to cover the South Loop, West Loop and Little Italy. Skyline came into our domain four years ago when we purchased it from the Sun-Times. It has proud roots going back to the Lerner newspaper chain which once had outposts in neighborhoods across the city.

But those were different times and today we have new challenges. We’re hopeful that we’ll find a future for these papers. If we aren’t successful, then we will close out our efforts with pride and a tear at some point during December.

We thank our readers. We thank our advertisers. We thank the journalists who have worked so hard in these great neighborhoods.

I read this Journal regularly and particularly Bonnie McGrath and Skyline's Ann Gerber.

I,too, want to say that the paper will be missed if a owner is not found. When I moved here and found your paper, I was so excited as it gave me news about my neighborhood that the Tribune or Times doesn\'t report on. I look forward to it every week as it usually tells me things about the west loop that I did not know about...

I concur w my fellow readers. As our neighborhood is so hopeful about the coming changes, we look to your paper as a valuable resource to guide us through some promising times. Best of luck. We are in your corner!

Please say it isn\'t so. Your paper reports on issues that matter to the neighborhoods that you cover. I understand the economics of it, but it will truly be a sad day and a voice for the neighborhoods that you cover will sincerely be missed.

Good luck. This is a solid independent voice: hyper-local and quite objective. The community will miss you if you go away.
