Knife holding man attacks police
Policed arrived at a building located at 1 N. State at 12:55 p.m. July 9 in response to a report of narcotics activity. Police did not find any offenders at the scene, so they spoke with a building security guard, who told the officers that she was aware of narcotic activities taking place in front of the building and has contacted police in the past. The guard then pointed to a man nearby and said that the man was illegally loitering near the building. Officers approached the man for a field interview and asked if he had any sharp objects that could cut or harm the officers. The man said, “Yes. I have a knife for protection.” Police attempted to place the man in custody for carrying a dangerous weapon. The man lunged at the officers, the report says, and one of them stunned the offender with an open hand to the face. Police subdued the man and recovered a knife with a blade longer than 2-1/2” from his right front pants pocket. The man was arrested and charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.
This summary contains information taken from the arrest records from the 1st and 12th districts of the Chicago Police Department. Anyone named has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
