Where the coyotes are

There’s plenty of doom and gloom in the newspapers and on television stations these days and Chicago Journal is no exception.
Developments collapse, but residents bitterly oppose others. City workers are forced to take furlough days. Our parking meter system gets privatized. Facing massive deficits, the state can’t find a way to provide services to the poor and vulnerable. The city is facing massive deficits.
The doom and gloom is justified. It’s reality.
And yet:
We recall that it is summer.
Like many readers, when the summer sun hits and an afternoon at the beach is possible, we like to stretch out with a compelling, entertaining read.
We think you’ll find exactly that in this week’s paper.
On our front page, please read Part I of longtime Chicago writer Dan Kelly’s fascinating take on coyotes and their murky presence in the South Loop’s biggest empty lot, the one that stretches over 62 acres from the southwest corner of Clark and Roosevelt.
Dan’s piece is one we’re publishing under “The Diarist” tag, meaning he’ll take a first-person point of view to take you through his wanderings.
Check back next week for Part II.
In the meantime, the rest of us here will keep tabs on the doom and gloom.
