A group of nine to 12 men apparently used a Facebook group to arrange an assault on two men at 11 p.m. Sunday, June 3 outside the Foot Locker store at 227 S. State St.

The victims, a 34-year-old Chicago man and a 20-year-old Chicago man, told police the group sent them “malicious” messages on Facebook warning them not to buy shoes at Foot Locker.

The two men were outside the store June 3 when four cars holding the group arrived and attacked them. The 34-year-old man was cut on the left hand by a knife and the 20-year-old man was beaten by fists and a baton.

When one of the attackers dropped a knife, the 20-year-old victim told police that he picked up the knife and stabbed one of the attackers once or twice in the side. Both men lost their wallets, one of which contained $900.

The 34-year-old man transported himself to Northwestern Hospital, where he was treated and released. The other victim refused treatment.

A dispute between cabdrivers at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4 on North Canal Street outside Union Station ended with one cabdriver striking the other with his cab.

Police said a 30-year-old cab driver from Chicago was dropping off a fare at Union Station June 4 when another cab drove up in the bike lane. When the 30-year-old cab driver informed the second cab driver that driving in the bike lane was against the law, the second cab driver threw an unknown substance at his vehicle.

Both vehicles proceeded north on Canal but at Canal and Washington Street, the first cab driver got out of his cab and told the second cab driver that he was going to call the police.

The second cab driver then proceeded to drive his cab at the other man, hitting him with the cab’s side mirror before fleeing.

Police charged a 53-year-old Chicago man with two counts of aggravated assault with a gun after he allegedly pulled a pellet gun on two men in the Dominick’s parking lot at 1159 S. Canal St. at 8 a.m. Monday, June 4.

The two men, a 40-year-old Chicago man and a 33-year-old Chicago man, told police they had a verbal altercation with Wayne Williams, of the 1000 block of West 14th Street, and he then took a gun out of his waistband and told them to “get away or I’ll pop you.” Williams then boarded a westbound Roosevelt bus which police stopped at 800 West Roosevelt Road where they searched Williams and found the gun.

A 21-year-old man from Madison, Wisconsin, was robbed of $350 at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, outside Union Station at 443 W. Jackson St. The victim told police a man approached him at the station asking for change for $50. When he produced the change the man told him that his friend was holding the $50 bill and they walked to a semi-secluded courtyard located behind 333 S. Riverside, where the man took out a gun and demanded all the man’s money before fleeing south to Congress Boulevard, where he got into the passenger side of a gold-colored four-door Chevy that escaped eastbound.

A 45-year-old Chicago woman was robbed of her purse and groceries while walking in the 2100 block of South Dearborn Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday May 30. The woman told police she was approached by two women and a man and one of the women said “Give me all your stuff or I’ll cut you,” taking the woman’s purse as well as detergent, soap, deodorant and sugar before fleeing eastbound on Cullerton Street.
