A rendering of the proposed building at 9th and State streets.

A developer planning a 39-story apartment tower in the South Loop at the intersection of 9th and State Streets presented its plans to a community group last week.

Golub & Company, owner of the site that’s now a parking lot abutting the CTA Green and Orange line tracks, showed off the tower at a meeting of South Loop Neighbors.

The building will have a four-story base that’ll stretch from 9th south to the existing Hilti parking garage.

From the middle of that will spring the full 400-foot, 39-story tower.

Inside, the building will have roughly 392 residential units, with 241 parking spaces and 9,500 square feet of retail space.

Loading docks for the site and entrances to the garage will be off Holden Court, under the ‘L’ tracks.

Golub said they expect to bring a more complete version of the project to the city council later this year.

This article has been corrected to reflect that that the building will reach south to the Hilti parking garage, not the Burnham Animal Hospital building further south.

I like it. Right now, those parking sheds are falling apart and rodent infested. Several years ago they poured concrete around the base of both units to fill rodent holes. It'll be a different look for that stretch that has seen a bunch of masonry faced buildings, but I approve. I still wish that both Park 1000 and ParkMichigan had been built. But more retail? One Place & State Place still haven't filled their retail spaces, so will another 10,000 sq. feet be used either?

Looks like a nice design. I can't think of a better scheme for that plot of land. It would be a great addition to the nieghborhood.

is it going to stretch n the south to the animal hospital buisling or to the hilti 2 story garage building. I was not under the impression that they owned that land as well. In the rendering you can see that the smal garage building is still there.
