After assistance, man gets robbed

A man was walking near 1 N. State April 18 at 8:45 a.m. when two men approached him and asked for directions, according to a police report. The man gave them directions and then walked to an ATM to retrieve money. He then walked toward the people who stopped him before. They stopped him again and said, “Give me your wallet.” He did and they took two credit cards and fled. The man discovered that the offenders ran up $1,800 in charges on the credit cards.
Peel away
A man reported April 20 that while his car was parked at 2231 S. Wabash, someone entered and removed his city parking sticker from the windshield.
Car kicker curbed
A man had parked his car at 801 S. Financial April 20 at 7 p.m. When he returned to it a few minutes later, he found a man kicking in the driver’s side door, causing a large dent. Police arrested the man and charged him with criminal damage.
Panhandler angered by empathy threatens to shoot
A woman was walking down the street near 140 W. Madison April 20 at 10:05 p.m. when a man in a black skull cap and a dark jacket approached and asked for some change. The woman apologized and said she had no change. The man became upset and said, “If you say sorry one more time, I’m going to start shooting up people.” The man fled. Police could not locate him.
Robbery, battery
A man withdrew money from at ATM located near 400 S. Wabash April 20 at 5:50 p.m. After he walked away, two men followed him, knocked him down to the ground and took his wallet, which contained $200, miscellaneous identification and credit cards. The men fled east on Van Buren. Police toured the area, but could not locate the men.
Pick-pocketed on the CTA
A woman was exiting the CTA train at 60 E. Jackson April 18 at 1 p.m. While walking up a stairwell into a large crowd she felt someone’s hand in her unsecured purse. The pick pocket took her wallet, which held $100 and various credit cards and ID. Police advised her to contact her financial institutions and credit card companies to check on and cancel any fraudulent transactions.
“Borrowed” cell phone returned
A man was standing on 230 S. State April 21 at 12:08 p.m, when another man approached and asked if he could use the man’s cell phone. The man gave it to the other man, who made a call and then started walking away with the phone. The offender made it across the street before he was detained by some bystanders. Police arrived, arrested the man and charged him with theft.
Assault with a deadly fork
A security agent approached a boy at a retail record store located at 26 E. Randolph on April 20th to discuss a potential shoplifting incident. The boy brandished a fork and lunged at the officer. Police arrived, but the security guard refused to sign complaints. Police transported the boy to the 1st District police station and called his mother to pick him up.
Knife attack on the CTA train
A man boarded a Green Line train at 26 E. 35th St. without paying a fare on April 9 at 12:14 a.m. A security guard approached him, and the man pulled out and pointed a butcher’s knife at the guard. The guard backed off and the man rode the Green Line to 1200 S. State, where he was detained by police. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
