The package, postmarked from a Scottsdale, N.Y. address, had been sent to the consulate’s previous location at 111 E. Wacker Drive and forwarded to the West Loop. Madison St. and attempted to cash a check for $2,450. While processing the order, the teller realized that the check was a counterfeit, at which point the bank contacted police. Officers arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect, who stated that he had received the check in the mail after applying for a job online. The suspect was later released without charges.

Threats at the library

A man told police that he was threatened by an acquaintance at the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State St., on the morning of Jan. 27.
