Christmas is over: Dump that sorry tree for free

It’s January. That means it’s time to dump that sorry-looking Christmas tree in your living room that’s lost all its needles and is scaring the dog.
Luckily for you, the city’s giving you an option to get rid of it for free. The Chicago Park District, Streets and Sanitation and the Department of Environment have set up a number of sites around the city where Chicagoans can drop their spent merriment.
Each site will have a corral where residents can leave their tree. The sites won’t be manned, so there won’t be anyone to help you lug the tree from your car.
The trees will be mulched, and residents can pick up a limited amount of it for free after Jan. 7.
Streets and Sanitation asks that all decorations be removed, including lights, ornaments and tinsel.
You can drop your free off at these sites from Jan. 1 through Jan. 17:
