Art Institute shuts down free Thursdays

The Art Institute of Chicago is cutting its free Thursday nights, saying enough Chicagoans weren’t showing up.
Starting June 2, visitors to the museum will have to pay to get into museums during its evening hours from 5 to 8 p.m.
Research showed that the people who were coming to the free nights were from out of state, not the target market of Chicago residents that the Art Institute was trying to entice.
The idea was to bring in locals who support the museum through their tax dollars.
Instead, the Art Institute will offer free admission on the first and second Wednesday of every month.
