Dogs have a park. Let us have a park too.

07/05/2011
Bartelme Park seems a hopping place all day, every day. That was certainly the case when my friend Katherine and I joined the lunch crowd stretched along the stone and concrete benches. We blended nicely with the sunbathers atop the hill, the passersby and the families in the play lot. We didn’t gel as well with the dogs. Read More...

UC helps shred the past, anchor the future

06/25/2011
One of the perks of living in the West Loop is that we are within walking distance of events that take place in the center of the city. For example, beginning next week the United Center will play host to Cirque du Soleil’s OVO for the summer. Today the UC was hosting another city-wide event. Read More...
Clearpath for West Loop's crime cycles

Reading the CAPS Beat 1212 meeting minutes from June had me thinking about the typical cycle of crime in the West Loop. There were 51 arrests including eight for Battery, 23 for Theft (Dominick’s=18 of those), eight for Criminal Trespass to Land, four Burglary, one assault, three DUI, one Resisting a Police Officer, one for a Warrant, and two for Reckless Conduct. 'Hero worship' at Beer Bistro

06/16/2011
I got an email a couple of days ago that Bob McDermott, owner of Beer Bistro on west Madison, had apprehended a thief in his establishment. So my friend and I popped by the Bistro for a little "hero worship" as she put it, and the scoop. Read More...
Threadless was seamless

06/16/2011
I was so excited when the community sourcing t-shirt maker Threadless came to the West Loop. Having tweeted about Threadless, written a column on them and shared designs with friends on Facebook, the only thing left to do was visit their West Loop retail store. Read More...
Park as art

06/16/2011
I was walking my friend Sylvestre through Bartleme Park for the first time the other night. As a member of the planning committee for the park, nestled between Adams, Monroe, Peoria and Sangamon Streets, I wanted to show him the fruits of our community’s labor. Read More...
