Madison Street was crawling with tiny Spidermen and Power Rangers this morning as merchants offered kids and parents early Halloween treats. “Trick-or-Treat on Madison Street” was the site of the costume characters.

Smitten owner Kristen Martin said the the most original costume she saw was a one-year-old with Bears cap, bulky sweater and tiny moustache. A tiny Mike Ditka. Da Bearz?

Otherwise, it was mostly ballerinas and pirates. Martin saw nothing too topical, like binders full of women.

Many came from Skinner Park, with a pumpkin patch and petting zoo. West Looper Kristen Bohling’s son Charlie (dressed as a giraffe) enjoyed the park and animals.

“He was chasing the goats and chickens. He especially liked the goats,” Bohling said.

Lucky Vijasin, another West Looper, said his kids gave the goats a wide berth. “We had an incident with a goat earlier in the year,” Vijasin said. “Felix got a nasty scratch and it came just before picture day at school.”
