Floyd's 99 opens in West Loop
New barbershop on West Randolph

The newest West Loop business on West Randolph is—shockingly!—not a restaurant. It’s a barbershop. It’s called Floyd’s 99, located at 935 W. Randolph, and it opened earlier this week.
Generally, you think of barbershops as a quaint notion, but Floyd’s has an in-your-face rock-and-roll theme. The décor and soundtrack are distinctively rock, and Floyd’s has it’s own online radio station you can access here: javascript:nicTemp();.
The theme may be modern, but the hair styles are decidedly old-school. The “Floyd’s Cut” uses hot lather and a straight razor for men; women get a finger dry. Both are certainly affordable, at $24. Through Labor Day, you can take advantage of Floyd’s grand opening special prices: 50% off. That means a haircut, for men or women, will run you $12.
If you’re not old enough to remember the classic TV sit-com “Mayberry RFD” (also known as “The Andy Griffith Show,”) well, let’s just say you missed out on the golden age of television. One of the recurring characters on the show was Floyd the barber. The new Floyd’s 99 is an homage to the character on the show. Check out reruns on MeTV or online. Don Knotts' recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution is arguably one of the funniest bits ever to air on television: javascript:nicTemp();
But back to Floyd’s: the staff at the West Loop location—the 60th in the company’s national chain—is friendly and charming. Even if only one of them—Christina Orozco—was aware of the fictional Floyd the barber.
The building that houses Floyd’s 99 was a former butcher shop. Stylist Sarah Esquire was quick to point out that “if you get your hair cut here, we won’t butcher you.”

I agree Larry- There\'s no doubt he WL will continue to thrive but diversity is the key. Being that the WL is such a popular family neighborhood I think more non-restaurant businesses will continue to flow into the area. I for one, would like to see more convenient stores for odds and ends when I prefer to avoid the big box grocery stores.

THANK YOU FOR OPENING! We need more non-food/alcohol-themed businesses. I hope you do well. Good luck!
