My neighbor Marge got the following (abridged) and [revised] email today from Brad Lyons, Director of Jones College Prep's Theater Academy. It speaks for itself. Come on out Friday night to support Jones in its quest for winning "Best Play in the State" at the Illinois High School Theater Festival.
***************
By now, I'm sure most of you know that our fall play, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised], has been selected as one of the "best plays" in the state by the Illinois Theatre Association! As such, we have been invited to perform our show at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival (January 5th - 7th) at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. This was Jones' first time entering the competition, so it's a huge honor for the students, the theatre department and the school that we have been selected! (I hate to brag, but I will: We received top scores from all of the judges who attended!)
That said, we are trying to raise almost $3,200 to cover our expenses. This money will go to cover hotel rooms, bus rental to and from the festival (to transport students, costumes and props), registration for chaperones, and other miscellaneous items. Students are covering their own registration fees, and the cost of their meals while we are away.
To raise funds, we are reviving the show for one night only, this FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16th, at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5.00 in advance and $6.00 at the door. If you haven't seen it, now is your chance! And if you have seen it, you can see it again because the show is newly edited for the festival, so it's even faster paced than it was before! The show is a Monty Python-esque romp through all of the Bard's plays, with special attention paid to Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, Othello, Twelfth Night and more!
