Tribute to Tribute
it was about time I tried it

Through four changes of top chef at Tribute, I watched from afar and blogged about the news. Which came pretty fast and dramatically.
I finally tried it a couple of nights ago after seeing a movie at Spertus a block or so north. It was an easy walk on South Michigan Avenue, in spite of some drizzle, but I was out of excuses. I've been peering in the huge windows there for months, all the way back, even before the build-out, the personnel changes, the opening, the settling in. The big tilted orange couches attract my attention every time I walk by.
I sat at a regular table, though. My friend Barat, who is responsible for reminding me I should write something, had this to say: "I was very impressed not just by the food but by the attentiveness and friendliness of all the staff. And the space itself is very hip."
I agree. We had complimentary tastes of beer before choosing craft drafts that matched our pedestrian tastes: She's s Stella drinker; I'm a Blue Moon lover. But we loved what they chose for us--and placed an order for more.
Barat had a fancy burger--and mixed green salad as a starter. I had a salmon club--and a beet salad to start. Everything was delicious and prompt. Although the restaurant was bare; but maybe that was because of the off and on rain.
For dessert we ordered a special little orange frosted chocolate cake with a good sized ghost on top made out of marshmallow. And the pastry chef came out herself to ask how it was. It was good--but we were stuffed and Barat brought it home to her mother. Who loved it.
All in all, historic drama or no historic drama, Tribute is good. And I will go back. I want to try what Barat had.

I would add a second opinion on Tribute that you were absolutely right on the service and food. Our dinners were interesting and good! Hope other South Loopers try Tribute!
